The PYRO 1394 Drive Kit features an external drive enclosure that enables users to convert an IDE Ultra DMA/33 or 66 drive, ATA-100 Drive, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD or DVD-RAM drive into a FireWire drive simply by plugging into the ADS Native Bridge Board inside the enclosure. At 400Mpbs/sec, you will get the maximum data throughput for your external drive.

Plug and Play and hot swappable, the PYRO Drive Kit is ideal for users who need a faster bus than USB, but do not want the installation hassle of SCSI devices. Now your hard drive is portable and can be easily plugged into any FireWire port.

3 FireWire Ports:
Each Drive kit has three 1394 ports for maximum flexibility in your FireWire topology. 1394 bus power is supplied through the port for a bus-powered drive (or other devices). Three ports allow for one connection to host device and two ports to act as daisy chain connections or FireWire repeaters to extend the FireWire bus.

PYRO Native Bridge Board:
The secret ingredient that converts your IDE or CD drive into a FireWire Drive is the PYRO Native Bridge board. This board comes pre-installed in your PYRO Drive Kit. The PYRO Native Bridge board is 1394a compliant and supports 1394 bus speeds of 100, 200 and 400 Mega bits per second. The Native Bridge board is Flash Programmable via the included software. You can instantly change your configuration from Hard Drive to CD Rom and back so you can change the type of drive in the drive kit anytime you desire. But don?t do this too often, after 10,000 flashes you could wear it out.

What you really want is SPEED: The PYRO Drive kit will help you maximize the data throughput of your drive. Data Burst speeds of up to 400 Mbps (50MB/sec) are supported by the 1394 technology. Sustained transfer rates of over 16MB/sec. have been achieved with hard drives in our testing labs. Digital Video only requires 3.9 MB/sec. so you have lots of SPEED left over for other tasks.

External ? Stackable Storage:
With the PYRO 1394 Drive kit it?s never been easier to add storage to your computer or network server. Just install your drive and connect. Each PYRO Drive kit includes a 10? daisy chain cable so you can easily connect one drive to the next. There are no terminators or device ID?s to worry about, FireWire does all of that for you automatically. The guys in our lab say that you are not really cool unless you have at least three (3) PYRO drive kits stacked.

Hot Swappable:
Want to add a drive to your computer just plug it in. No re-booting required. Want to remove a drive, just let your operating system know that you are removing a drive and unplug. This is so easy?you?re going to fall in love with your computer all over again.

Plug and Play:
Adding a hard drive to a computer used to be one of the more scary things in life. But not with the PYRO Drive kit. To install a new drive all you do is slide your drive into the enclosure, bolt it down to the enclosure with the included mounting screws, plug in the power, close the case and connect it to your 1394 card. It can?t get much easier than this. If you are good with Lego?s or Lincoln logs, you?ll be an expert at this.

All the Power you Need:
The 50 watt Power Supply is built-into the drive enclosure. Just plug it into the wall with a normal power cord (included). No wall transformers. This Reliable power supply provides 12 volts and 5 volts to your drive.

Ball Bearing Fan:
The Drive Kit enclosure includes a silent ball bearing fan to keep your drive cool and running smooth and quiet for thousands of hours. The fan includes metal fan guards on the inside and outside of the enclosure so you can?t hurt your pinkies, even if you tried. But don?t go stick?n your fingers where they don?t belong!

Stereo Audio Outputs:
The drive kit includes Right and Left Audio outputs. If you install a CD-ROM or DVD drive you can route your CD-Audio to a stereo system or to your computer sound card. Some new drives send the audio directly along with the data. In this case the audio will automatically be sent through the 1394 cable and play on your computer with no extra cables required. An optional audio cable is available in our on-line store (6 ft. cable with Left and Right RCA to 3.5mm mini stereo jack for sound cards)
